Profile

'uy skweyul siiye'yu, 'i' tsun T'aat'ka' 'utl Leey'qsun.

Rachel is a first year PhD student in Political Science at the University of British Columbia. Her masters research focused on representations of Indigenous Peoples in Anthropology, particularly in relation to war and slavery on the Northwest Coast, and how these stories inform and harm Indigenous peoples' social and political lives with settler society. Her current research considers the ways in which returning to ancestral lands, traditional diet, and snuw'uy'ulh (laws, teachings, ontologies) contribute to building healthy self-determining nations, and how to move beyond a resurgent politic to make this return a reality, particularly for Leey'qsun mustimuhw.
